What drones are compatible with this parachute?
DJI Matrice 400
When the DJI AP100 Parachute is mounted, the DJI Matrice 400 automatically disables its downward and backward mmWave radars to ensure clear deployment and prevent false alarms. As a result, the drone's ability to detect small obstacles in these directions is reduced. Please fly with caution, monitor your environment, and avoid obstacles manually. Note: mmWave radar functionality may be restricted in certain regions; always check your local regulations.
What is the maximum takeoff weight for the parachute?
The parachute supports a maximum load capacity of 15.8 kg. For optimal flight safety, ensure your aircraft's total takeoff weight never exceeds this limit.
Does using the DJI AP100 Parachute guarantee complete safety for the drone, people, and property?
The DJI AP100 Parachute is a supplementary safety system built to slow the aircraft's descent during emergencies. While it significantly reduces the risk of injury, property damage, and loss of equipment, it cannot eliminate these risks entirely. Pilots must continue to adhere strictly to all safe flight practices.
What is the descent rate after the parachute is deployed?
Provided it is deployed at least 30 meters above the ground, the parachute will slow the drone to a steady descent rate of 5 meters per second or less.
Tested in a windless environment at 25°C (77°F) and altitudes between 30 and 500 m, with the DJI Matrice 400 flying at its 15.8 kg maximum takeoff weight. This data is provided for reference only; actual performance may vary based on environmental conditions, flight usage, and firmware version. For complete details, please visit the product page on the official DJI website.
Can the parachute be deployed manually?
Yes, the parachute offers two methods for manual deployment:
App Deployment: You can trigger the parachute directly within the DJI Pilot 2 interface by swiping the on-screen slider.
FTS Deployment*: In supported regions (including the EU and UK), you can deploy the parachute via the Flight Termination System (FTS) on DJI FlightHub 2. This requires the drone to be connected to a 4G network via a DJI Cellular Dongle 2**, and the remote controller to have internet access (via Wi-Fi or its own Dongle 2**). To deploy, simply enter the Aircraft SN and your verification code into the FTS interface.
*FTS Deployment Support: Triggering the Flight Termination System via DJI FlightHub 2 is available in the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Serbia, Georgia, and all EU member states (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden).
** Cellular Dongle Setup: The DJI Matrice 400 supports up to two DJI Cellular Dongle 2 units. If you are only using a single dongle, it must be installed in the 4G-1 compartment for standard 4G functions to work properly. Please note that the 4G Enhanced Transmission service is restricted in certain regions; consult your local dealer for availability.
Under what conditions does the parachute automatically deploy?
*The parachute automatically deploys if it detects abnormal aircraft speed or attitude. However, to prevent close-range deployments from damaging nearby equipment or property, the auto-deploy function is disabled in the following scenarios:
The aircraft is within a 10 m radius of the Home Point and at a relative altitude between 15 m above and 15 m below the Home Point.
When Cleaning Mode is enabled, the aircraft is within a 10 m radius of the Home Point and at a relative altitude up to 15 m above the Home Point.
**Geocaging features are available in the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Serbia, Georgia, and all EU member states (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden).
Can the parachute deploy while the drone is still on the ground?
No. While the aircraft is grounded before takeoff, both automatic and manual parachute deployment are completely disabled.
What kinds of alerts or alarms does the parachute provide?
Once deployed, the parachute emits continuous audible beeps and flashing light alerts that last for approximately 1 hour*. This warns bystanders on the ground to stay clear while helping operators quickly locate the aircraft.
*Tested at 25°C (77°F) using either a brand-new factory unit or a parachute connected to the aircraft for at least 30 minutes of flight time per month. This data is provided for reference only; real-world performance may vary depending on environmental conditions, usage patterns, and firmware versions.
What does the physical button on the parachute do?
It is used to silence the beeping and turn off the flashing lights after the parachute has deployed.
How long can the parachute stay powered after the drone turns off?
When fully charged, the backup battery provides approximately 1 hour of power.
Tested at 25°C (77°F) using either a brand-new factory unit or a parachute maintained with at least 30 minutes of flight connection time per month. This data is provided for reference only; real-world performance may vary depending on environmental conditions, usage patterns, and firmware versions.
How often do I need to replace the canopy and gas generator?
The parachute is a single-use safety device and must be entirely replaced after any deployment. Additionally, to ensure system reliability and flight safety, it is recommended to retire and replace the product three years after its initial activation, even if daily system self-checks show normal results.
What is the water and dust resistance rating of the parachute?
IP55.
Will the parachute installation interfere with the DJI Matrice 400’s 4G signal?
The DJI Matrice 400 is compatible with up to two DJI Cellular Dongle 2 units*. If you are setting up only a single dongle, ensure it is installed in the 4G-1 compartment for proper operation.
*Sold separately. Please note that the 4G Enhanced Transmission service may not be available in all countries or regions. Contact your local dealer for specific regional availability and details.
What does the gimbal safety tether do?
When the DJI Matrice 400 is equipped with the parachute, the gimbal safety tether serves as a crucial physical backup to prevent the payload from detaching due to the shock of the parachute opening.
Before flight, review DJI's official tutorial videos and secure the safety tether to the gimbal bracket exactly as instructed; improper installation can cause the payload to loosen, shift, or degrade camera stability and image quality. Please note that this tether is designed solely to minimize the risk of accidental detachment during deployment—it does not guarantee a zero-damage or zero-loss outcome. Additionally, the safety tether is incompatible with third-party payloads and brackets.
Do I have to attach the gimbal safety tether to the Gimbal Connector?
Yes. When flying the DJI Matrice 400 with the parachute system, you must securely attach the gimbal safety tether to the Gimbal Connector.
What are the steps to install the gimbal safety tether?
For detailed instructions, please refer to the User Manual available on the official DJI Downloads page.
