DJI has outdone itself again with the DJI Pocket 2, a handheld gimbal camera that provides you with smooth, stabilized footage in a camera so small that it can fit in your pocket. This new pocket camera is a marked improvement from its predecessor, the DJI Osmo Pocket. While the Osmo Pocket was revolutionary at the time it was released for being the smallest 3-axis stabilized handheld camera ever designed by DJI, the Pocket 2 comes with several new features and upgrades that make it a welcome successor.
If you’re looking for a new handheld gimbal camera that helps you capture professional, movie-quality footage, or you’re interested in upgrading from the DJI Osmo Pocket, the DJI Pocket 2 might be the pocket camera for you. We’ll go over the cool new features of the Pocket 2, its upgraded image and audio quality, as well as how it compares to the Osmo Pocket to help you decide which camera to choose.
DJI Pocket 2 can take the highest resolution photos of any camera its size on the market. With the ability to take photos with a resolution of 64MP, the Pocket 2 handheld gimbal camera will give you high-quality, professional-looking shots. The 64MP resolution is a major improvement upon the resolution of the previous pocket camera, the Osmo Pocket.
While the DJI Osmo Pocket came with an impressive 1/2.3” image sensor, the Pocket 2 has an even larger and more impressive 1/1.7-inch image sensor that further boosts image quality. Wherever you decide to shoot images or film video, this dynamic pocket camera can help you capture stunning footage both day and night.
One of the best improvements from the new Pocket 2 is its improved FOV, giving you a 93° view that helps you capture wider images than the 80° FOV of the Osmo pocket. No more crowding together in a tight frame to get everyone in the shot--with the Pocket 2, you’ll be able to get that group selfie with ease! DJI Pocket 2 also comes with an improved focal length and aperture of 20 mm and f/1.8 (compared to the Osmo Pocket’s 26mm and f/2.0), further boosting your selfie game.
Every photographer knows the difficulty of tracking fast-moving objects in a shot without getting a blurry mess. DJI Pocket 2 comes with the new and improved autofocus feature called Hybrid AF 2.0, giving you the ability to quickly and accurately focus the handheld gimbal camera on a subject. This can help you capture a precise and stunning shot when time is of the essence.
Unlike the DJI Osmo Pocket, the Pocket 2 gives you HDR video capabilities that enhance the colors and details of your photos. With this simple but powerful feature, this pocket camera can layer frames by separating exposure levels by area, giving you greater details in both shadow and highlights.
The 64MP image sensor also provides the Pocket 2 with the ability to support 8x zoom, allowing you to capture minute details from far away. It also supports 4x lossless zoom, giving you negligible quality loss in your photo and allowing you greater flexibility in capturing photos without having to move closer.
When filming footage instead of still photography, the quality of the audio can be just as important as the quality of the video. DJI Pocket 2 lets you record high-quality audio thanks to its DJI Matrix Stereo system, a microphone array of 4 in-built microphones. This audio system gives you immersive sound with incredible directional detail that can make watching your footage feel like you’re really reliving the moment. The Pocket 2 can even record sound in three patterns.
In addition to the digital zoom, DJI Pocket 2 also provides you with audio zoom capabilities that zoom the audio in as well as the video. This can help you create an even more realistic and immersive experience when playing back your footage.
DJI Pocket 2 has even greater audio quality thanks to SoundTrack, a feature that adjusts the direction of audio enhancement automatically based on where the camera is pointed. This allows you to filter out unnecessary noise while emphasizing the audio of the subject you’re filming.
One of the most popular features of the Pocket 2 is its 3-axis gimbal, which stabilizes the camera and allows you to record smooth footage while in motion. You can absolutely tell the difference between footage recorded on your average phone camera vs a handheld gimbal camera like the Pocket 2, as the stabilization keeps the subjects perfectly in frame while keeping the video from appearing bumpy.
The mechanical, 3-axis gimbal is helpful not just for capturing video, but also for taking long-exposure handheld images or automated panoramas that require a steady hand in order to take the shot. Thanks to the brushless motors and the miniature mechanized stabilization platform of the Pocket 2, you’ll have the precise gimbal control you need to capture a smooth and balanced shot every time.
Lugging around a giant camera can be a headache for both professional and amateur photographers alike, especially when you’re shooting in hard-to-reach locations. DJI Pocket 2 can fit just as easily in a purse or pocket as it can in your hand. Whether you’re setting off on a hike to capture stunning shots of wildlife or you’re looking to record life whenever inspiration strikes, the Pocket 2 gives you the power to capture the moment.
Life happens on life’s terms. The ability to pull out a camera and quickly film a moment or image allows you to capture life in the moment before it passes you by. Thanks to the Fast Wake feature, you won’t have to worry about clumsy fingers and long start up times. Fast Wake enables you to quickly power the device on and start filming before it’s too late, capturing the scene at just the right time in impeccable quality.
Like most of DJI’s cameras, the Pocket 2 comes with ActiveTrack 3.0, a feature that uses computer vision and deep learning to accurately lock onto and track subjects. This allows you to quickly track and film moving objects, keeping them in the frame and giving you professional, movie-like quality.
ActiveTrack can be activated using the onboard touchscreen. It also allows you to lock on a target by selecting the subject on the screen. It also automatically activates face tracking whenever a face is detected in the frame, giving you even more hands-free capabilities.
Timelapse is one of the coolest software features of the new DJI Pocket 2, allowing you to condense hours of footage into a short, seconds-long video. By using Timelapse to record an image, you can show the movement of clouds or the setting of the sun in one short, unique video.
The Pocket 2 also comes with Motionlapse, which allows you to smoothly move the camera along pre-defined angles or up to 4 set points to add a bit of motion to your shot. Hyperlapse is another incredible feature of the Pocket 2, using EIS to keep the frame stable while the camera moves along and giving you a Timelapse shot that slowly pans across.
If you’re an amateur videographer, you’ll love the preset video and music templates that come with Story Mode. Choose from any of these cool templates to quickly and easily create dynamic, movie-quality videos with just a couple of taps. You don’t have to be an expert to create your own stunning and artistic videos.
Another amazing feature of the Pocket 2 is the DJI Mimo AI Editor, an in-app video editor that uses AI technology to take your videos to another level. This editor goes a step beyond Story Mode by automatically creating beautiful videos full of dynamic transitions and complementary music. You’ll be sharing these videos on social media before you know it, wowing your friends and inspiring you to experiment even more with your creative skills.
DJI Pocket 2 has 8x slow motion, allowing you to capture slow motion videos at a rate of 8x at 1080p compared to the 4x slow motion capabilities of the Osmo Pocket. Whether you’re filming your best friend cannonballing into the pool or shooting a video of an electrifying thunderbolt, you’ll be sure to capture it all in stunning detail.
DJI Pocket 2’s panorama feature allows you to shoot incredibly wide shots of up to 180°, perfect for including entire landscapes all at once. Unlike the DJI Osmo Pocket, the Pocket 2 can also create a 3x3 panorama shot with even greater and close-up detail.
Unlike the DJI Osmo Pocket, the Pocket 2 comes with a small joystick with which you can move the gimbal around in any direction. You can also use the joystick to zoom in and out, giving you more precision and control over your footage.
The DJI Pocket 2 Do-It-All Handle makes the pocket camera even easier to hold, giving you an even better recording experience. You can also integrate the handle easily with several of the DJI Pocket 2 accessories.
You can film even more stable footage with the Pocket 2’s mini tripod accessory, which fits onto the bottom of the handheld gimbal camera. This tripod is perfect for shooting stable footage when filming a Timelapse or panorama shot, allowing you to set the camera down on a flat surface without having to hold it.
You don’t have to worry about charging or protecting this little pocket camera, as the DJI Pocket 2 comes with a new case that’s perfect for charging and storing. This charging case can also store two microSD cards, four ND filters, and two smartphone adapters, giving you greater efficiency and safety for your materials when traveling.
Both the DJI Pocket 2 and the Osmo Pocket are designed to stabilize motion, allowing you to capture sharp images and smooth videos. Both of these handheld gimbal cameras are small and portable enough to fit in your pocket, giving you the flexibility to shoot images and video when traveling or on the go. If you’re interested in superior image and audio quality, however, the Pocket 2 is the way to go.
DJI Pocket 2 is a significant improvement from the Osmo Pocket, with huge image quality upgrades such as 64MP photos and its larger image sensor. The updated software features of the Pocket 2 are also a must-have, with features such as ActiveTrack 3.0 and enhanced slow motion giving you greater control over your footage.
The Pocket 2 is also more integrated than the Osmo Pocket, allowing you to edit videos with the in-app AI editor instead of having to connect to a computer and using a full fledged video editor. The cool new accessories such as the Mini Control Stick and Do-It-All Handle also make the Pocket 2 even easier to use than the Osmo Pocket.
If you’re in the market for a new pocket camera, the DJI Pocket 2 is undeniably the better choice. Not only does it have an improved image and audio quality as well as a multitude of new features, but it’s also less expensive than the previous DJI Osmo Pocket. If you’re a current owner of an Osmo Pocket and are considering buying the Pocket 2, it’s well worth the upgrade. The DJI Pocket 2 is affordably priced and a significant enough improvement from the original Osmo Pocket that it’ll be worth every penny.
